![]() Aston Martin DB7 Grand Theft Auto (1997) | How about somebody emails Rockstar games, telling them about the site, and asking them if they could tell us what the cars in the GTA games were inspired by/based on? Would this be a good idea, or not? Would they mind that we've taken captures from their game, it wouldn't breach any copyright, would it? -- Last edit: 2008-02-10 17:28:29
![]() Aston Martin DB7 Grand Theft Auto (1997) | To be honest I think many of the cars on this site are just named randomly. This doesn't look more like a DB7 than another car and in the game it's not even very fast. Someone has named the Superbike as a Ducati 999, it could be any sportsbike!
![]() Aston Martin DB7 Grand Theft Auto (1997) | Well it looks almost identical
![]() American LaFrance Eagle Grand Theft Auto (1997) | American
![]() Aston Martin DB7 Grand Theft Auto (1997) | This car isn't very fast and it isn't very exclusive (it's the car you start off next to at the very beginning of the game), so I don't think of this as an exotic sports car like the DB7.
![]() Ford Mondeo Grand Theft Auto (1997) | "The Contour was slightly larger than the Tempo and was only available as a sedan. By contrast, the European Mondeo was also available as a hatchback and a wagon." Proves my point. The rear glass of this car is from the Mondeo hatch, thus it appears to be a Mondeo. Despite ostensibly being set in the U.S., keep in mind that these games are developed in the U.K., so certain British cars have a habit of finding their way in, such as the Ford Escort Cosworth ("Cossie") and Ford Transit vans ("Transit").
![]() Ford F-150 Grand Theft Auto (1997) | I'd say a 1992-1996 Ford F-150.

![]() Plymouth Barracuda Grand Theft Auto (1997) | Definitely an E-body Mopar with a Shaker scoop. Judging by the length of the hood, I'd say it's a 1970 or 1971 Dodge Challenger.

![]() Ford Mondeo Grand Theft Auto (1997) | I say Mondeo, since the Countour was never a 5-door, which this appears to be.

![]() Cadillac Brougham Stretched Limousine Grand Theft Auto (1997) | Well to me this looks like a stretched version of the Brigham which is listed as a Cadillac Brougham.
![]() Chevrolet C-30 Grand Theft Auto (1997) | That's right. In the game's storyline you start your criminal career in Liberty City (which resembles New York even closer in this game) and after completing the second level "Heist Almighty", mob boss Bubby sends you to San Andreas (vaguely resembling San Francisco) because you've brought too much heat on yourself from your sucess in crime. Then in the cartoon cut-scene at end of Level 4 "Tequila Slammer", homosexual hispanic gang leader El Burro (who reappears in GTA3, even if it's in voice only), wearing nothing but a waistcoat, tells you he's now going to 'personally' reward you for your sucess (and you'll find out why he's known as "The Donkey"). In the next level "Bent Cop Blues", you are now in Vice City (Miami) under the thumb of highly corrupt narcotics officer Deever. I always imagined that your character flees San Andreas to avoid being sodomised by El Burro. Sorry if that sounds homophobic, but when you get to actually see him in the cut-scene, you'd understand why anyone would want avoid getting intimate with this guy. Although the funny thing is you can actually choose a female profile for your character so that would spoil the subplot of El Burro lusting after you (and calling you "pretty boy"). In fact, despite that when you start the game, out of 8 character profile mugshots to choose from 4 of them are women, the in-game dialogue often assumes you are male, to be honest this is more of a boy's game, though there's no reason why girls can't enjoy it. -- Last edit: 2006-10-27 19:22:43

![]() Plymouth Gran Fury Grand Theft Auto (1997) | Although the LTD Crown Victoria is more common as a Taxi, it still has the name "Portsmouth" which suggest it was named after a Plymouth car (both are English port towns). Although shouldn't this be a Gran Fury rather than a Caravelle? -- Last edit: 2006-11-01 11:51:10
