Reading different forums on SCS' social media accounts about the electric Renault truck, there's unfortunately a lot of negative criticism. People are arguing that electric trucks are not suitable for ETS2. While I think they could have added a better truck, I don't see why people just cannot be appreciative. There were/are so many people excited to see electrics in the game and I think it is a brilliant idea.

Considering that the game still does not have rigid trucks which are way more common - I think such criticism is understandable.

Quite sad that SCS now has to fictionalize real variants of traffic vehicles. This looks like a damn GTA car! Anyone else misses the original styling of AI vehicles?

At least it looks like a GTA car, most recent fictional SCS vehicles look much worse

First, I suggest that you do research on cars where the tailgates open up with the rear window and are still branded as sedans (Volkswagen Arteon, Kia Stinger).

I don't care what marketing departament says, Volkswagen Arteon is NOT a sedan, neither is Kia Stinger. If rear window opens with trunk lid - the car is not a sedan.

Vxctec wrote

Second, what makes you think that the Model S is primarily marketed as a full-size electric sedan? Why is it's competition such as the Lucid Air, Mercedes EQS, E-Tron GT etc, come in the form of sedans only?

Lucid Air is a sedan, trunk lid opens without window
techcrunch.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/IMG_2619.jpg

Audi E-tron GT is also a sedan
cdn.businesstraveller.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/Audi-e-tron-boot.jpg

But Mercedes EQS is actually a liftback, NOT A SEDAN

Vxctec wrote

Third and finally, what do you say about all these sites that consider the Tesla Model S practically being a sedan the way it is

These sites might be simply parroting marketing BS. As I said - if the rear window is part of a trunk lid - that's NOT a sedan. Period.

You can have car that looks like hatchback yet still a sedan (like Opel Kadett D or Fiat 127 - hatchback versions are more famous but sedans existed as well)
upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/d/d4/Opel_Kadett_D_mit_kurzer_Heckklappe.jpg

On the other hand you can have a car like Skoda Superb III that looks like a conventional sedan (3-body styling), yet being a liftback because the trunk lid opens with the rear window.

Tesla Model S doesn't even has that type of conventional 3-body styling, and the trunk opens with rear window - it is NOT a sedan.
Manufacturers probably advertise cars that aren't sedans as "sedans" because that sounds more luxurious and fancy but just because marketing departament invented some mumbo-jumbo doesn't make it true.
Tesla Model S

Euro Truck Simulator 2 (2012)
This is common car knowledge - if the rear window opens with trunk lid then it is either 3 or 5-door car - hatchback or liftback, even if the car looks like sedan and has three-box styling (Tesla Model S doesn't have even that, since it is two-body styling).
If the trunk lid opens without window then it's a sedan and trunk lid isn't cosidered additional door.

This is a liftback:
upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/1/12/Tesla_Model_S_Schiphol_taxi_AMS_12_2016_0581.jpg

This is sedan:
i.ytimg.com/vi/Zu0caTwMm3k/maxresdefault.jpg

Liftback can be a sedan only if it has a switch like second generation Skoda Superb (but since Superb has a liftback option then it is probably still a liftback).

Also, I have said this before and I will say it again. Please reconsider the class from being a hatchback as the Tesla Model S is marketed as a full-sized sedan. Technically a lift back but not what it’s currently listed as.

Doesn't matter what Tesla marketing calls it, Model S is a liftback. If rear window opens with trunk lid - that's not a sedan

The headlights are over sized and are not even in a more slim and narrower version than the Transit. Both the front windows and A pillars on the Trafic and Transit Custom match in the same direction, so what do you mean?

We do not even know the rear image of this van as there isn't a second photo to truly determine what it is? Who knows if it has the rear of some RAM or Nissan?

Yes, it might be a Nissan NV300 because it is the same f-cking car, a rebadged Renault Trafic. But that definitely is not Ford Transit Custom - here's the same picture with even better quality

Headlights don't match exactly because duh, the car is unlicenced. But they have similar shape and the rest of the car matches perfectly - down to the mirrors and side turn signal location. Ford Transit Custom on the other hand has a completely different rising window line, without the 45 angle "cut" near the B pillar base, while Renault Trafic a nearly parallel one and that the 45 angle cut present on the sliding door. The bumper is inspired by Opel Vivaro, another rebadge of of Renault Trafic, but grill is more Renault Trafic or Nissan NV300.
Fiat Talento

Cities: Skylines II (2023)
Look at the Steam screenshot, Ford Transit has different, slightly tilted window line, while in this van the window line (or in this case - the place where the windows are supposed to be in passenger version) is parallel to the rest of the car
This is clearly either Renault Trafic or Nissan NV300 (they are the same vehicles, only rebadged)

Some car makers are more aggressive than others, it is not about age of vehicle. If you look sellable models in Sketchfab, most Chevy vehicles are called "american car". Another aggressive is Volvo, that is why Macks are "american truck". Peterbilt's are called Peterbilt, even if same year as those "american" trucks are. Don't know if it is case with VW though, but might be reason

I'm not talking about the lack of branding because AI vehicles in ETS and ATS were never licenced to begin with, but the fact that recent AI models don't look like real vehicles anymore.
It is weird that recent vehicles in GTA Online are carbon copies of real cars (Brioso 300 or Tulip M-100 are basically unaltered Fiat 500/G-body Chevy Malibu only the badges are changed) while SCS started adding fictional GTA-style vehicles.

I also have no idea why they bothered to alter a 40-year old car, it was changed way more than the brand new Tesla Model Y (which only has altered front) but here they messed up not only front but also quarter rear end (the windows are too short for 3 door version and the taillights were also different)

Seems to me that SCS Software are now adding vehicles into their games that almost resemble the real thing, but differ in design.

Which is a shame since so far all AI cars were realistic. They also debadged all the existing AI vehicles and removed gas stations that clearly referenced real life companies like "Chemron" or "GP" (well, GP was replaced with NAF stations that still look like BP with their color scheme, but Chemron was replaced with "Aron" and is way more generic)

Even with Eleanor-esque mods it's still a nice looking car. Maybe GTA:O gameplay is still boring AF, but at least the fact that R* started to add more retro vehicles (instead of another generic supercars) keeps me still logging in.
Also the front is from 1970 Mustang, but I guess they're trying to keep in theme with Dominator.

Somehow uglier and less Mustang-looking than real life counterpart. At least we also finally have a classic Mustang in game.
Lada 1600

Grand Theft Auto V (2013)
R*'s price madness strikes again - Lada 2107, one of the cheapest new cars ever produced, costs 150 000$ in-game. While in eastern Europe you could actually get a real used car for equivalent of 150$.
I know 150k is cheap by today Rockstar's standards, but it's an April Fool's car anyway so why it isn't free?
At least this DLC is one of the first in ages, that has more classic/ordinary cars, than supercars.

Although many of those new cars look like they could be reused in a hypothetic GTA VI that takes place in Vice City in the 80's.

GTA VI in the 1980's Vice City would be perfect (it must be the 80's, VC atmosphere won't work that good in present day, also I'm tired of seeing another modern era GTA), unfortunately I am worried that it will be ruined by Cockstar's recent cash grabbing tendencies.
De Tomaso Pantera GT5

Grand Theft Auto V (2013)
I had the opportunity to drive one in Online mode (as some cheater spawned it in my session) and unfortunately - it is weaponized, so there is no option you can use this car in races. And these are not even some good weapons, just the same crappy peashoter guns as in Ardent.
It's such a shame, because these are beautiful cars, and (as Doomsday Heist was originaly supposed to be the single-player DLC they cannibalized for GTA:O) they are probably leftovers from the era when Rockstar was headed by Leslie Benzies, had good reputation, and wasn't a greedy cash grabbing corporation like EA or Ubisoft.
I find it amazing how Cockstar in just few years traded all of their credibility for some Shark Cards money. And don't have any hope for Red Dead Redemption 2 - it will be even worse, because, unlike GTA 5, it will have all this shit from the day one, that's 100% sure.

Ferrari Testarossa

Grand Theft Auto V (2013)
I've lost hope for GTA V single player DLC long time ago. They even mentioned it somwhere around 2014 on R* Newswire, but other than this no sign. Benzies confirmed (after he quit R*) that the SP DLC was in production, but was scrapped.
And that is quite understandable - why would they even bother do make it, when it's easier to rip 10-year old kids on Shark card money. This image sums up pretty much (and it was made two years ago, now the cash grabbing is even worse):

That's why micropayments and preorders are such cancer - they are killing the potential of the game's world, every single person who bought (even the cheapest) Shark card has their share in canceling single player DLC.
Ferrari Testarossa

Grand Theft Auto V (2013)
My guess is that next GTA game will be in 80s Vice City, that's why they started to add all these retro cars (Comet, Cheetah, Infernus, Turismo, etc.)

Yeah. For a first time in years I must praise Rockstar - these new cars are extremely well-detailed, each one has unique interior which closely resembles its real life counterpart (finally they stopped recycling same shitty stock supercar interior), and they are classic GTA cars, which community asked for a long time.

Probably R* realized that the classic versions of Comet and Elegy were the best-selling cars from Import-Export DLC and decided to add even more classics - that is great news.
Now they should bring back Cheetah Classic, Deluxo, Sentinel Classic, Windsor Classic (Jag E-type) and the cars from GTA IV and my life will be complete :3
