First, I suggest that you do research on cars where the tailgates open up with the rear window and are still branded as sedans (Volkswagen Arteon, Kia Stinger).

I don't care what marketing departament says, Volkswagen Arteon is NOT a sedan, neither is Kia Stinger. If rear window opens with trunk lid - the car is not a sedan.

Second, what makes you think that the Model S is primarily marketed as a full-size electric sedan? Why is it's competition such as the Lucid Air, Mercedes EQS, E-Tron GT etc, come in the form of sedans only?

Lucid Air is a sedan, trunk lid opens without window

Audi E-tron GT is also a sedan

But Mercedes EQS is actually a liftback, NOT A SEDAN

Third and finally, what do you say about all these sites that consider the Tesla Model S practically being a sedan the way it is

These sites might be simply parroting marketing BS. As I said - if the rear window is part of a trunk lid - that's NOT a sedan. Period.

You can have car that looks like hatchback yet still a sedan (like Opel Kadett D or Fiat 127 - hatchback versions are more famous but sedans existed as well)
upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/d/d4/Opel_Kadett_D_mit_kurzer_Heckklappe.jpg

On the other hand you can have a car like Skoda Superb III that looks like a conventional sedan (3-body styling), yet being a liftback because the trunk lid opens with the rear window.

Tesla Model S doesn't even has that type of conventional 3-body styling, and the trunk opens with rear window - it is NOT a sedan.
Manufacturers probably advertise cars that aren't sedans as "sedans" because that sounds more luxurious and fancy but just because marketing departament invented some mumbo-jumbo doesn't make it true.

It's shame how there is no liftback or fastback option on vehicle type on this website

Because liftback or fastback aren't body types. A liftback sedan is still a sedan.

Model 3 is a sedan. Model S is not. Tesla can call it whatever it want but if the trunk opens with window it is a liftback/hatchback, not sedan

First, I suggest that you do research on cars where the tailgates open up with the rear window and are still branded as sedans (Volkswagen Arteon, Kia Stinger). 🤦🏾‍♂️

Second, what makes you think that the Model S is primarily marketed as a full-size electric sedan? Why is it's competition such as the Lucid Air, Mercedes EQS, E-Tron GT etc, come in the form of sedans only?

Third and finally, what do you say about all these sites that consider the Tesla Model S practically being a sedan the way it is:

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tesla_Model_S

www.edmunds.com/tesla/model-s/

www.motortrend.com/cars/tesla/model-s/

To make it clear, I despise Tesla and their vehicles for various reasons and I would never buy one in real life. I don't want people to think that I am defending them in any way when I am not. However, what I'm saying is that the Model S isn't a hatchback and there is evidence to prove that. If you want to see hatchbacks then look at some examples like a Leaf, Bolt EV and so on.

It's still claimed as a sedan by Tesla itself and automobile websites, so it's not true that the Model S isn't a sedan considering that liftbacks can also be classified as sedans, especially since both the Model S and Model 3 fall under this category.

I do not like Tesla or anything, but they honestly need to replace this with a 2nd generation Model S as this version is outdated. Also, the Tesla Model S is a sedan, not a hatchback.
