Dodge Dakota Need for Speed: Most Wanted (2005) | Well, SizSkiizd, I have to agree with you, but, it is a tough truck, especially when you have to ram into Police Roadblocks - but, I agree with your review of it.
Chrysler Town & Country Need for Speed: Most Wanted (2005) | A civilian vehicle that you do get to drive, again in the Challenge Series. You have to complete a Tollbooth Challenge with it, and folks, it really is a Challenge with this van, however, it is unusually fun to drive!
Chevrolet Corvette C6.R Need for Speed: Most Wanted (2005) | A car that you do get to drive in the game, it's part of the Challenge Series - fun to drive?, yes, easy to drive?, no, at least not as far as the Challenge goes. A car to appreciate when you have to face it during pursuits.
Subaru Impreza Need for Speed: Underground (2003) | I'm sorry, you call yourself Explorer4x4 and have the audacity to critize one of the worlds best AWD cars?, ask anyone that's owned one, they'll tell you, these cars are fantastic, and, might I add better than an Explorer. I'm sorry to rag on ya, but, you can't knock a good car like a Scooby.
Hitachi ZX 240 LC-3 German Truck Simulator (2010) | I've seen several Hitachi's painted in this familiar scheme, maybe it's one of theirs?
Volkswagen Polo S1600 Colin McRae Rally 2005 (2004) | Terrible acceleration and heavy, this car does reward the driver with the opportunity to learn stages early in the game - but, to be fair to the little Polo, when setup properly it is a very fun little car to drive, does like to be thrashed about, and comes off as being very confident as a race car. As I mentioned at the begining though, given it's weight and lack of acceleration, you do need to plan your hairpins and the like carefully otherwise expect the little Polo to bog and sap you of a good stage time.
Volkswagen New Beetle RSi Colin McRae Rally 2005 (2004) | A solid, good rally car. Dull by comparison to the other cars in the game and only because there's little that seems to throw this car off. It's happy on either Tarmac or Gravel stages, but, one has a hard time finding a stage where it isn't comfortable. Acceleration and top end speeds are very good, but, nothing extraordinary. As mentioned before, it like the Golf R32 and the Audi A3 uses the same 3.2L V6 and 6 spd gearbox in addition to the same 4WD drivetrain.
Volkswagen Golf GTI Colin McRae Rally 2005 (2004) | Odd thing about this car in the game, it is supposed to be a Turbo-Charged car right?, well, on the "dash" there's no indicator light for the Turbo. Now, I'm sure this was an oversight when the game was developped, but, anyone that knows the GTI series of Golfs know that they all used Turbos on their engines. Neverthless, you can hear the Turbo as the car does it's thing, and again, one wonders why it's not mentioned, even in the description section of the game. 220Hp on tap from the 2.0L "Turbo" engine, add with that a very good 6 spd gearbox and a solid frame, this has the makings of a very sure and confident hot hatch rally car.
Toyota Celica GT4 Colin McRae Rally 2005 (2004) | Fantastic! - nothing more needs to be said about this car, a terrific AWD system, very, very good gearbox, solid frame, quick, and fast car and light. One of the best 4WD cars in the game.
Toyota Celica Colin McRae Rally 2005 (2004) | A fabulous 2WD car, simply fabulous. Not very powerful mind you, and with the gearbox set to it's neutral settings, you never need to make any adjustments. Wheel hop is fierce off the line, but, the car does calm down once it gets going. Very sure of itself it's a great choice once it becomes unlocked. Kinda wonder though, turbo-charge this car and give it Toyota's excellent AWD system, and you can't help but wonder just how good this car would be?
Subaru Impreza WRX STi Colin McRae Rally 2005 (2004) | The car that started it all, this is a great car, and there's no denying that. 300Hp on tap, a great 6 spd gearbox and a fairly solid structure. This car loves Gravel stages, but, seems equally well suited to Tarmac. This car will give you quite a workout on tight Tarmac stages like those in Japan, but, with the ratios in the Gearbox set to their neutral state, the car does impressively well. As one of the two choices with the Audi, you'll have a tough time deciding, but, keep this in mind when you do, the Subaru is lighter.
Subaru Impreza 22B-STi Colin McRae Rally 2005 (2004) | While this car is a classic Group B, it feels something of a let down. Now, I know, I know, that's a death sentence as Scoobies are supposed to be great cars, well, this one is, but, it never gives any impression that it's fantastic. By comparison, the Toyota Celica Turbo 4 feels like it's hair is always on fire, the Scubaru here feels like it's been sedated. That said, it's a solid car, takes beatings a lot better, and when pushed rewards the driver with a sense of accomplishment. Acceleration isn't great for this car, but, top end speed is very good. Hair pins are a breeze with this car and it does extremely well in tight tarmac spaces.
Peugeot 205 Turbo 16 Colin McRae Rally 2005 (2004) | A car I consider to be a lot of fun to drive even if it might be a little bit of a handfull. This car and the Ford RS 200 are probably the only Group B rally cars that are the easier ones to drive. That said, this car needs to be treated with respect, it can end up a problem child if you aren't paying attention. I have learned that the Peugeot 206 WRC car adopted the same AWD system that was found in this car, but with a few Hp less.
Mitsubishi Pajero Evolution Colin McRae Rally 2005 (2004) | With a really nice V6 engine and a good 6 spd gearbox, the Pajero EVO is a fun 4x4 to drive. The engine revs higher than the LR Defender's 6, but, the trade off there is that is makes you want to thrash it about more, and, with a little practice and the right setup, the Pajero can end up being faster on similar stages that the more civilized LR will rally on. Top end speed doesn't seem to interesting, but, it's acceleration where this vehicle scores high marks.
Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VIII Colin McRae Rally 2005 (2004) | On particular note too is this, once the EVO 5s were no longer seen on Rallying Circuits, this EVO had a problem, the front and rear overhangs - that combined with it having the longest wheelbase compared to the other cars in it's group, you do have to work to get this car into tight spaces, but, with enough practice, it's a rewarding experience.
Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VIII Colin McRae Rally 2005 (2004) | Of the Group A rally cars, I have found the Mitsu to be the fastest, and possibly the quickest car in the bunch. I have managed a top speed of 144Mph with it, so far, no other Group A car has come close. It's very delicate easily busting itself up on gravel sections. The Mitsu is good on Gravel but seems to be an animal on Tarmac sections. A RHD car, odd given that the large percentage of cars in the game are LHD. 5 spd manual gearbox is very good and rarely needs any modifications to have this car bring you to top place.
MG ZR Super 1600 Colin McRae Rally 2005 (2004) | Essentially a tuned up Rover 200-series, this little pocket rocket is considered a good advantage over the VW Polo. It's a lot faster off the line than the other basic 2WDs, but, the gearbox could use taller gears through 4th and 6th, I have to say though, a tough little car, very quick, and respectably fast - good choice once it becomes unlocked.
Land-Rover Freelander Colin McRae Rally 2005 (2004) | Well, brownxjs that may be, but, you have to admit, once unlocked it is such a nice ride. The Pajero is fun but feels constantly lairy all the time, never really sitting down and taking a moment, the Land Rover on the Other hand is a relaxing Sunday drive, my preferred 4x4.
Lancia Stratos Colin McRae Rally 2005 (2004) | Next to the Ford Sierra Cosworth, the Lancia Stratos has to be my fave. This is the only car too that will take jumps very well, literally flying over them. The engine is the Ferrari Dino V6, and mated with a great 5 spd gearbox make this RWD a joy. One can appreciate why it did so well in the Rallying circuits. Takes a little getting used to initially, but, when the car is setup correctly, it will prove to be a very easy car to handle. Not as at home on Gravel as some RWDs, but, loves Tarmac.
Ford Focus WRC Colin McRae Rally 2005 (2004) | Claimed to be the "point and click" of Rally cars. At first one wouldn't think such a monicker would apply, but, after a few races with this Focus, it becomes readily believable. It's a lot of fun to drive, it does love being pushed and when setup correctly will reward you everytime for your efforts. There's something though, almost all the Group A rally cars seem to have this crutch, delicate - Ford claims to have reinforced the body using more weld points than the standard car ever would need, but, that strengthening never seems apparent. The Focus seems to do extremely well on Tarmac and has fantastic top end speeds, and enjoys being bounced around on Gravel.
Ford Escort Colin McRae Rally 2005 (2004) | ..oops, Mk 1 - all appologies.
Ford Escort Colin McRae Rally 2005 (2004) | The classic Mk 2 Escort, what's not to love? - I'm glad this car has a lot of stages for itself to Rally with, and with 210 Hp and RWD it can be a really nice car to drive, that said, one more gear in the Gearbox could be appreciated, but, the car does have acceptable top end speed, and with the Gearbox setup correctly, acceleration is quite good, there's only one thing to remember, despite what it is, as a RWD you do need to be careful opening the taps on hairpins and other tight bends, while spinning the rear wheels is fun, the amount of opposite lock won't be enough to save you from the car losing control.
Citroën Xsara WRC Colin McRae Rally 2005 (2004) | With 310 Hp on tap, the Citroen Xsara has the other Group A rally cars topped, and those extra 10 horses show their value on Tarmac sections. This car loves gravel and the right setup makes it a very enjoyable car to Rally. That said, like the Mitsubishi, it can give the impression of being a delicate car, but, that all depends on your setup.
Renault Clio V6 Colin McRae Rally 2005 (2004) | For the only RWD of the 3 2WD Super Class cars, and that it does sound like the Mitsubishi Pajero, this car is alot of fun to drive, and, is very quick once it gets going. Acceleration is quite good and control from the mid-engined V6 and 6-spd manual is a fine layout, and makes for one of the better of the 2WD Supers. This car doesn't (at least in the game anyway) suffer from the awful turn circle that the car was supposedly known for, but, that's something that the player can adjust. Good power - 255 Hp, from a 3.0L V6.
Morris Mini Cooper S Colin McRae Rally 2005 (2004) | By far the sweetest Rally car in the game. It's suggested that it be used for getting familiar with the stages in each of the maps. I still believe that this car should have had it's own challenge stage, or at the very least a proper Rally setup to race it with, after all, it was raced in rally circuits and did exceptionally well. A hoot to drive, even if it doesn't have the biggest engine - 1275CCs, nearly a 1.3L and giving 100Hp, with a 4-Spd manual, the car makes the stages a little long, and a little dull as the car is stiff, and a little hard to make mistakes with.
Peugeot 206 WRC Colin McRae Rally 2005 (2004) | I love this car!, the Peugot 206 made me smile when I first laid eyes on it, and I always cheered it on when it was bombing around in WRC circuits. When CMR5 gave me the option to drive it, that smile always appears. In fact, this car makes me feel so giddy, that I get disappointed when the stages end. This car really is that much fun to drive. It supposedly uses the drivetrain from the old 205 T16 Group B rally car. Only this time, the fire breathing bull that came from beneath that car has been subdued...but, only a little. The 206 still demands respect, but, will make sure that it gets you to the finish with a great time. It's supposed to be boring to watch as the AWD system is so clever to prevent wheel spin, but, not in the game as doing drifts and 90 degree wheel spining turns is what makes this car sooo much fun. Highly recommended when it gets unlocked.
Lancia 037 Rally Colin McRae Rally 2005 (2004) | Technically a Group B Rally car, I was suprised to not find it in the group with the other Group B cars. The Lancia 037 is too, in a class of it's own, the only car that is Supercharged. That's a good and a bad thing, while the Supercharger provides players with immediate power (as befits a Supercharger), the 325Hp doesn't seem like alot, but, the car isn't heavy, and because of this, this car can be a handful, don't be suprised if you find yourself using the brakes in conjunction with the transmission/engine to help slow down this monster. Still, a fun car, good too when it's properly setup.
Ford RS200 Colin McRae Rally 2005 (2004) | A car that one can take or leave, the small 1.8L Turbo 4 cylinder engine is supremely powerful, 450Hp!!, combined this with less than perfect brakes at first, the player is forced to really work hard with the Group B cars, and while this is probably the slightly more forgiving of the 4, the Audi being just the most bonkers of the lot, the Ford RS200 is a good Group B car to drive. Tall?, yes, but, can I suggest that lowering it enough helps the jitteriness and sporatic volcanic acceleration of the car.
Ford Escort RS Cosworth Colin McRae Rally 2005 (2004) | A beaut. The reason why anyone wouldn't want to drive this car in the game would be beyond me. Even without the upgrades, the engine, and other upgradeable parts still make this car seem quite capable all on it's own. The 2.0L in 4 produces 300Hp and is Turbocharged, so, it's practically in the same power league as the Group A cars, and the weight is again the same, 1230Kgs. Once it is armed with her upgrades, it is a delightful car to drive. Very competent, very sure of itself and very confident, never feels quick, but, the acceleration is quite good.
Ford Fiesta Super 1600 Colin McRae Rally 2005 (2004) | Really nice 2WD car, I don't like the nasty wheel hop that occurs when the throttle is mashed. The tach needle seems like it wants to do a 360 rotation of the dial. But, it is the more powerful of the 2WD cars in the FWD class, its 2.0L in line 4 cylinder engine burps out 220Hp. The fact that it's not the heaviest also helps, but, don't let that fact put you behind the wheel too quickly, it takes time to get to speed, the other 2WD cars get to their respective high speeds quicker than this car can, but, it is very sure of itself.
Citroën Saxo Super 1600 Colin McRae Rally 2005 (2004) | One of the more enjoyable 2WD Group N Rally Cars. Naturally, the 5th and 6th gears of the car seem a little close, I would have loved a little more in the way of RPMs between the two. Nevertheless, while acceleration is really nothing to write home about, once the car gets going, it's a whole lot of fun. Naturally aspirated 1.6L 4 Cylinder engine that produces a healthy 210Hp.
Alfa Romeo GTV Colin McRae Rally 2005 (2004) | Not the most powerful of the RWD Rally Cars, this one has to have the near 2.0L 4 Cylinder Turbocharged engine, and puts roughly 150Hp to the rear wheels. There are times when it likes being pushed, provided you set it up just right. But, here's a problem, there's not much in the way of an aero pak to keep the car on the ground, so, even with not much Hp, the rear end WILL go all over the place and the car literally WILL turn into itself if you're not careful.
Pontiac Grand Prix NASCAR Grand Theft Auto: Vice City (2002) | Did anyone consider the Ford Thunderbird from 1983?, it was seen alot in NASCAR, so, it would only seem right to have a generic one in the game, here's an image - upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/2/21/Ford_Thunderbird_1983-1987_Aero_Bird-2.jpg/800px-Ford_Thunderbird_1983-1987_Aero_Bird-2.jpg
Made for Game Tank Grand Theft Auto: Vice City (2002) | Nevermind looking impractical, it's not really a tank. It's a 6x6 heavily armoured car. Try to think of the M-18 Greyhound, but, being very lumpy, very very tough, and having a big gun.
Porsche 911 Targa Grand Theft Auto: Vice City (2002) | This is an awful mock-up of a Porsche. Why is it the other cars that try to look like Ferraris and Corvettes came close?, this one could have used a little more work, and, while it drove well in the game, it wasn't anything spectacular. www.sellitnowmotors.com/classifieds/user_images/cars/cars.583.1.jpg
Ferrari 365 GTS/4 Grand Theft Auto: Vice City (2002) | 1971 Ferrari 365 GTS Daytona, with the exception of the headlights/tailights that are slightly different. upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/6/6b/1971_Ferrari_365_GTS_Daytona.jpg
Chevrolet Suburban Grand Theft Auto: Vice City (2002) | Again, close but no Banana, here's a 1986 Chevrolet Suburban, the game truck is close, but, if only the tall side markers, or indicators weren't there, and maybe if the grille wasn't modeled the way it was, then yes, it would have been perfect. www.cargurus.com/images/2008/03/17/01/03/pic-4487.jpeg
Buick Riviera Grand Theft Auto: Vice City (2002) | Well from the image I was able to find of a 1975 Buick Riviera, the game car is close, but, not close enough to the actual car. www.musclecarclub.com/musclecars/buick-riviera/images/buick-riviera-1975a.jpg
Cadillac Eldorado Grand Theft Auto: Vice City (2002) | While it's been a while since I've played this game, can anyone remember if the developpers got the drive of this car right?, was it a FWD like the actual cars were?, or, was it "accidentally" a RWD as one might have expected these cars to be. Check out Terminator (1984) - the Eldorado smoking it's front tires confirms the drive layout. static.howstuffworks.com/gif/1976-cadillac-eldorado-1.jpg
Chevrolet Corvette Grand Theft Auto: Vice City (2002) | If only the headlights/tailights were super close to the actual Corvette C4, again, we'd have another vehicle in the game that would be similar to real life cars. Not bad cars, but, while fast, they are a little delicate. upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/8/8a/DSCF2897_c4_corvette_lg.jpg/800px-DSCF2897_c4_corvette_lg.jpg
AM General HMMWV Grand Theft Auto: Vice City (2002) | One of the coolest vehicles in the game, relatively tough too, the OD version could be found on the military bases, civy versions were all kinds of colors, but, looked virtually the same. Like the cab, this too is the closest game vehicle that's based on real life vehicles.
Checker Marathon Grand Theft Auto: Vice City (2002) | This is as good a side image of the original checker cab as yer gonna get, the game car seems to have a slightly longer wheelbase, but, all in all, probably one of the closest designed cars in the game that reflect an actual car. www.hubcapcafe.com/i/2002/ellingson_orphan/chek8201.JPG
Chevrolet Advance-Design 3600 Grand Theft Auto: Vice City (2002) | Well, I guess this one's open for interpretation like almost all of the cars/trucks used in this game. I think that this truck could be pegged as a later or mid model 50s Chevrolet Pickup Truck. This beauty I found is close as far as cab design goes, I'll let you guys decide - www.rrclassiccars.com/c1958chevypickupdone17.jpg
BMW 7 Grand Theft Auto: Vice City (2002) | Well, here's a 1985 BMW 735i sedan, clearly not even close to the car in the game. Maybe if the headlights at least had remained round, it could be argued that it "might" be a 7 series, additionally, if the rear of top of the car was rounded, the late 80's BMW again would seem probable. Here's an image - auto.howstuffworks.com/enlarge-image.htm?terms=BMW+Cars&page=0&gallery=1
Chevrolet Biscayne Grand Theft Auto: Vice City (2002) | From doing a little digging, I found some pictures of a sound 1960 Chevrolet Biscayne, again, creative licencing allowed the developers to use the actual car as a base, but, made it their own. Here are some images I was able to find. www.rrclassiccars.com/c1960chevbiscayne11.jpg http://www.rrclassiccars.com/c1960chevbiscayne10.jpg
Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme Grand Theft Auto: Vice City (2002) | Agreed with Skid, this car and the Sabre Turbo have to be Olds 442s. This rear image of a 69 Olds 442 Convertible should confirm the make by the rear bumper/tailights, which again were modified under creative licencing. i21.ebayimg.com/06/i/001/09/65/e6e1_1.JPG
Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme Grand Theft Auto: Vice City (2002) | Wouldn't this be an Olds 442?, I ask only cause the rear end resembles one. The image I dug up here is of an Olds 442 from 1969, the game car sorta resembles this, but, for creative licencing the grille was altered. images.carcraft.com/eventcoverage/116_47z+1969_oldsmobile_442+left_front_view.jpg
MG Metro 6R4 Colin McRae Rally 2005 (2004) | This car is insane. The 6-spd manual transmission is clearly insufficient. A 10-spd manual is what it needs. Set this car high up on the Gearbox meter. Anything lower for ratios is pointless. Great little car though, again a good choice in the Group B, pitty that the Renault wasn't along for the run.
MG C Sebring Special Colin McRae Rally 2005 (2004) | Absolutely delightful car to drive, I say that there should have been a little more to the racing of this car than simply 4-6 stages. One of the nicest RWDs in the game.
Lancia Delta Colin McRae Rally 2005 (2004) | Virtually impossible to break it's suspension upgrades, as the frame is so stiff, but, once done, for this class it is the most powerful and very, very good. Not the quickest, but, given that it does have the aerodynamic properties of a brick, well, what do you expect? |
