GroupB photo_librarymode_comment 2016-04-29 20:06 | Maxine a écrit Doubt ill ever get to own a GNX, still I want to point out that nobody calls a GNX a Regal, even if it really is one, Same as when you say you drive a regal, Nobody stright away thinks, Ah a GNX? Kinda like if we listed the BMW M3 as a 3 series? wich also dont happen. just pointing out there. Exactly. The Regal was a conservative, plush, luxury coupe for middle-aged people. It hadn't been updated in 6 years and was about to go out of production. ASC didn't want the name and its connotations anywhere near the GNX and chose not to promote the car's Regal roots. Anyone who lived through those times knows that the vast majority of Regals were not Grand Nationals, but Limiteds with Landau vinyl roofs and wire wheel covers. |

Hakari photo_librarymode_comment 2016-04-29 19:45 | Mark0 a écrit If the advertisements are correct then what about this? Which one is correct? I guess Yugo is a name for US and foreign market while Jugo is original domestic name. Jugo sounds very silly when someone says it in english. The proper way to spell this make is "yugo" so it's called Yugo in USA. |

No one is hurling insults at each other, no one is mindlessly editing the car's name back and forth, and it has only generated a couple of comments over the last few hours. I'm positive the name is Regal GNX, just as it is Regal Grand National, although I'm not excluding the possibility that it actually is called GNX. |
Noko Tau photo_librarymode_comment 2016-04-29 18:02 | Oh well that's conclusive. Adverts are always 100% accurate, right? Still a Buick Regal though. |
GroupB photo_librarymode_comment 2016-04-29 17:45 | Buick GNX is the correct name. It was intended as a tribute to the Buick GSX. Just as the GSX was not called Skylark GSX, the GNX was not called Regal GNX. A couple ads from the ASC, the manufacturer: -- Last edit: 2016-04-29 17:47:17 |
Desscythe17 photo_librarymode_comment 2016-04-29 15:46 | Noko Tau a écrit I really need to get a new xBox, huh? Do they have any cool old French cars in Forza now? They have a couple of Peugeots and Renaults, but I don't think it's worth your time or money. (Alpine A110, Clio Williams, R5 Turbo, 205 Turbo and the 905 if you are into that) The older Forza games have even less old French cars, although 4 has a couple more modern ones. -- Last edit: 2016-04-29 15:52:50 |

Noko Tau photo_librarymode_comment 2016-04-29 14:02 | Desscythe17 a écrit As English is not my first language, I'm happy I got that right. I might have been guilty of using it the wrong way before, but now I know how to use it, so thank you. Dude, you did better than a LOT (and I mean A LOT) of people in Britain and America. |
Noko Tau photo_librarymode_comment 2016-04-29 14:01 | Desscythe17 a écrit According to myforzagarage.com (I don't own Forza, so that's the best I can do), it is listed as Regal GNX. I really need to get a new xBox, huh? Do they have any cool old French cars in Forza now? |
Desscythe17 photo_librarymode_comment 2016-04-29 13:55 | Noko Tau a écrit And kudos for the correct usage of 'begs the question'. Most people use 'begs the question' when they mean something like 'prompts the question'. Doesn't it wind you up when people do that? As English is not my first language, I'm happy I got that right. Noko Tau photo_librarymode_comment 2016-04-29 13:55 | Mark0 a écrit We also have it in Forza. How is called there? And i aw with Desscythe we should rename all of them to Regal GNX. And how all these game developers are vehicle lovers and they don't know real vehicle name... I think you've hit the nail on the head. They're not in it for the cars. They're in it for the money. I mean sure they love some cars. Obviously Polyphony REALLY love their Mazda MX5's . . . heaven help the poor sod who tackles the MX5s . . . prolly gonna be me. But they're not really interested in cars outwith their sphere of understanding. You've probably noticed the token effort around Vauxhall and Opel no mention of Ida-Opel. the little touch of FIAT, Autobianchi and Abarth but no Fiat Automobili Srbija/ Zastava Automobili. They want to pander to just enough people to sell the game to. |

Noko Tau photo_librarymode_comment 2016-04-29 12:05 | Desscythe17 a écrit It begs the question though why all of these cars are called Buick GNX on IGCD. Isn't the official name Buick Regal GNX? I thought people just dropped Regal because everyone knows what a GNX is anyway. Nah, Regal GNX owners dropped the 'Regal' because they were too damned proud. 'GNX' sounds cooler than 'Regal'. It would be like someone owning a 1994 1.6 Ford Fiesta but saying "Oh these? These are the keys to my classic Ghia" in a pub. (Yeah . . . I've known people like that in the UK.) And kudos for the correct usage of 'begs the question'. Most people use 'begs the question' when they mean something like 'prompts the question'. Doesn't it wind you up when people do that? If anyone else has missed it he's questioning the circular logic that something is misidentified because it's always misidentified. -- Last edit: 2016-04-29 12:14:41 |

Noko Tau photo_librarymode_comment 2016-04-29 03:44 | That'll be why I said "GNX that's been painted yellow." I don't define a car by it's colour. As much as you dislike the notion cars can be repainted. That yellow Regal has GNX style vents in the front wings. Little bit more definitive than the owner's preferred palette. |
Noko Tau photo_librarymode_comment 2016-04-29 02:06 | It shouldn't have been changed in the first place. And a mistake repeated is still a mistake. Thing is if someone who really knows about these cars comes along and sees that I've made the entry are going to assume I'm the one that goofed and called it a 'Buick GNX'. And yes. www.igcd.net/vehicle.php?id=83925 Here is a Buick Regal GNX that's been painted yellow (noted as a GNX by the vents in the front wings.) |
Noko Tau photo_librarymode_comment 2016-04-29 01:53 | They didn't have to change it. The first entry was not only fine it was accurate. They've changed it to an inaccurate version. Thing is I've met GNX purists who pulled this sort of stuff before. They honestly think it's a totally separate car. They don't like being reminded it's a Buick Regal because they think the Regal is below them. This is almost as bad as that one person who smugly corrected me when I correctly identified the 425cc Citroën 2CV as a Type AZ and not a Type A as Polyphony called it. -- Last edit: 2016-04-29 01:54:46 |
Noko Tau photo_librarymode_comment 2016-04-29 01:38 | I know this was going to happen. "It says Buick GNX in the game." Thing is Polyphony don't always get it 100% right. In real life this car is a Buick Regal GNX (Grand National Experimental). As you can see in the link below, for a 1987 Buick Regal Turbo-T, it's same car apart from wheels, trim and edition name. s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/05/a7/ef/05a7eff026ae6807e651c587e3aa8470.jpg It's only Polyphony and crazy Regal GNX purists who think it's a different car. In fact looking over the blurb in the game it even says right there the GNX was the Buick Regal GN's last hurrah. -- Last edit: 2016-04-29 01:42:03 |
Noko Tau photo_librarymode_comment 2016-04-28 18:59 | Monte Carlo, Grand Prix, Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme were also GM G's, a platform so renowned for it's instability the phrase 'G-Body Shuffle' became coined. |
