Those things are changed to make the in-game car look generic. The general shape of the vehicle is what's more likely to be influenced by real-life cars.  Pontiac Firebird Project Gotham Racing 4 (2007) | The car is an overall good representation of a 1983 Firebird (first year for the L69 305), but there at least two odd details that bug me: For one, the steering wheel is wrong. It looks like some sort of aftermarket 4 spoke wheel. Then again, many of these cars have had aftermarket steering wheels fitted (though I'd think boosting the horsepower to over 190 would be a higher priority).
