The concept arts show that it was inspired by the R8 but with typical front engined coupe proportions (hence the thoughts of this being an R35). Also it was known as Spectre at some point in development.

Don't be confused by the rising sun flag, it's just a changeable skin. Probably chosen more for the name "Kamikaze" than for the cars real origin.
