For example, train simulators have plenty of paid addons (standalone trains or complete routes with new trains) made by 3rd party devs that can be just as good or better than the addons made by the original devs. Addons that the devs have allowed to be sold on Steam alongside "official" DLC content. Content such as this is also treated as mods? Just making sure. I don't know about every train simulator, but for the Train Sim World games, while there are some addons that are not made by the original developer, I would definitely consider them "outsourced DLC" rather than "paid mods", as they are sold as official DLC on the Xbox/Steam store and must have had some input from the original dev to integrate them into the game (e.g achievements). MSFS is different, in that none of its addons, first or third party, are sold as DLC through the Xbox/Steam storefront (with the exception of the Special/Deluxe editions), they are only sold through the in-game marketplace, which Microsoft refers to as "approved 3rd parties selling directly to simmers". -- Last edit: 2024-04-16 08:47:35 | |
