en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mark_IV_monorail - the trains used on the Las Vegas Monorail at the time of the game's release.

EDIT: Martin Marietta built the first 10 trains in the 70s, but two more were built by Disney Imagineering in 1984 to meet demand (Lime and Coral) - these two were the ones that got sold to Vegas.

Based on the front grille I would have to disagree with the notion that it's a GAZ, looks to me like a 2nd gen Plymouth Valiant.

i.imgur.com/SWJA1jV.jpg

Really the only difference is the rear end, and that could just be a case of artistic license.

A 60's Plymouth to me makes the most sense as the Rio map also contains a mid 60's Ford Thunderbird.

I have the theory that this car was initially meant for La Havana (since Cuban police forces drove USSR cars at that time), but somehow during development they just put that car in Rio and made a new model (or reused the Dodge model?) for La Havana police.

This was a bargain. I picked it up at the Mount Prospect City police auction last spring. It's an old Mount Prospect police car. They were practically giving them away.
It's got a cop motor, a four hundred and forty cubic inch plant. It's got cop tires, cop suspensions, cop shocks. It's a model made before catalytic converters, so it'll run good on regular gas.

I have to agree. The few pictures I could find of Rio police cars of this era were almost entirely American or European makes (mostly VW Beetles and Chevrolet Veraneios which wouldve been cool to see in this game). The car does have some resemblance to a Volga but I believe the Valiant is a better choice based on historical context. Plus Plymouth Valiants were exported to various nations and used as patrol cars

An soviet made car in use by the Rio's Police dep. in the time of brazilian military regime(1964-1985)?
The government ruled by generals was aligned with the US back then, it would be extremely improbable..

Yet, the Rio's cruiser in service at the 70's aside with the GM "Veraneio" or 'Summer-set' (who is not present in the game) was the Ford Corcel, but the in-game model doesn't match what should be its real life counter-part.
The GAZ is indeed very similar, but if you pay attention, the front grid is pretty different from the game model.

That way, i think its most likely that the dev's based the game model on the 1965 Plymouth Valiant, as seen in the picture ahead.
