The Incredible Crash Dummies (1993)Star Wars Fanatic EN (487)The Incredible Crash Dummies was a game based on the popular toy franchise of the same name, and played as a standard 1990s 2D platformer. Unfortunately, despite the obvious emphasis on car crashes, driving levels were very few and far between, restricted to mini crash test levels where your vehicle was computer driven, whereby it was your goal to avoid various obstacles in order to gain more speed for the resultant collision. Despite some impressive graphics and animation, the platforming aspect suffered due to a lack of longevity and high level of difficulty - enemies would often appear on screen before you could even react to them. However, in keeping with the Crash Dummies theme, a somewhat unique aspect of the game was the deception of your character, whereby a limb would visibly detach if any contact with enemies was made, substituting a standard health bar.

Does anyone actually remember the Crash Dummies toy franchise? As a puny child, I really loved Crash Dummies and would collect all of the available merchandise. Action figures were available complete with detachable limbs, as well as an assortment of damageable vehicles - it certainly fueled my love of cars and automotive destruction at the time :D A 20 minute mini movie was also made in conjunction with the toy line, and was notable for being one of the first fully CGI movies in 1993.

SnookieCar in main photo is a GM 'J' body compact sedan with small touches to make it indistinguishable with its real life counterpart. It's too small to be a LeSabre which is a mid size model.

Aston Martin DB7
Grand Theft Auto (1997)
Star Wars Fanatic EN (487)I think it may have been about 3 months, but it probably varies between developers. There was some initial confusion in that they thought we were implying their cars were licensed vehicles, but they were still helpful and it was nice to know that they had viewed IGCD :) There are probably other games where the developers should be utilised like this. 2008-02-10 19:43
1992 Ford Escort RS Cosworth MkV
Grand Theft Auto (1997)
G-MANN UK (51)The developers of the GTA games were actually based in Scotland. Maybe their designers liked the Escort Cosworth so much (it was one of the greatest hot-hatchbacks of the 90s, and it was also successful as a rally car, Jeremy Clarkson was a big fan) they decided to put into the game, even though it was never available in the US (and thus was probably never street legal), which is where the cities in GTA are located. Perhaps in the game it is a gray import, I don't think you see it driving around in traffic, in Liberty City one is hidden in a courtyard, so it's like a secret car. 2008-02-10 19:19

Grand Theft Auto (1997)
G-MANN UK (51)How about somebody emails Rockstar games, telling them about the site, and asking them if they could tell us what the cars in the GTA games were inspired by/based on?

Would this be a good idea, or not? Would they mind that we've taken captures from their game, it wouldn't breach any copyright, would it?

Aston Martin DB7
Grand Theft Auto (1997)
G-MANN UK (51)To be honest I think many of the cars on this site are just named randomly. This doesn't look more like a DB7 than another car and in the game it's not even very fast. Someone has named the Superbike as a Ducati 999, it could be any sportsbike! 2008-02-10 17:21
