2011-05-21 00:44 | Note the strange "bump" on the rear decklid. This was not an original feature on Tuckers, but car #48 had some minor customization done to it years ago, and that pseudo-hood scoop was one of the additions. That tells me that the game designers probably used car #48 as a reference vehicle.

2011-05-20 19:02 | It will be quite interesting to see what happens next. I think the Expolorer based police interceptor will be the more successful as it will be a much stronger car (which the police need) than the Taurus. If I was buying I'd probably opt for the Charger. Nice idea on the Durango. Make it so Fiat! -- Last edit: 2011-05-20 19:02:45

2011-05-20 18:53 | @Mudflap: Agreed. GM has definitely gone full force in their design department. Their compact crossovers are among the best looking out there (with the exception of the Kia Sportage, Hyundai Tuscon and the Volvo XC60 (when compared to the SRX)), and the new Malibu definitely trumps the Camry. Of course, their performance cars are where the designs really shine. The CTS-V lineup, Camaro, Regal GS. Very cool stuff.

2011-05-20 18:47 | Yeah, Carbon Motors is saying somewhere between $40,000-60,000 for an E7, I think. It'll probably be a niche vehicle of the police interceptor industry. About the Durango: It's 5.7L Hemi would be an excellent pursuit vehicle against those larger trucks and SUVs. It would almost be like the Supercharged Rhinos from Most Wanted, which is where I got the idea from, initially.

2011-05-19 23:20 | The new models will fail. I'm pretty certain of that. The only question is whether they will actually get the cars launched. They don't have the funding and in this financial climate it will be difficult for them. They have already gone cap in hand to the UK government who have told them to do one. If you look at it the new cars will be priced in the kind of range where Porsches and Aston Martins are. I love Lotuses but there is no way I'd make the decision to choose one over a Aston at that kind of price. Look at the Evora. It's a lovely car and I would love to have one but sadly the people who can spend Ł50-60K on a sportscar don't feel that way. The sales figures haven't lived up to expectations as people would rather drive a Cayman or some such. To consider going up a level from that would just not work. If they came to ask me for money I'd look at the business case and tell them, Dragon's Den style 'I'm out'. That said, it is just my opinion and I could be wrong as I'm the kind of harebrained traditionalist who is unhappy they aren't still building the Seven.

2011-05-19 22:35 | @J-2: Yeah, it really is, when you think about it. I'm definitely going to miss these things when they're gone, but I will willingly welcome the new models with open arms (figuratively, of course). Some people don't realize that the new Lotus models (Elan, Elise, Elite and Esprit) may be larger, but still have similar power-to-weight ratios to the current models, surely something Colin Chapman would be proud of today, if he was still with us.

2011-05-19 22:27 | @Mudflap: Yeah, it will definitely be interesting to see how it will play out. It'll be 4 police cars competing against each other, with the Caprice and Charger you mentioned, along with the Taurus and the E7 as well. The Charger and Caprice are RWD (the new Charger doesn't have AWD available, right?), the Taurus is FWD/AWD. I keep forgetting what the Carbon E7 is, though... A Hemi-powered Durango police unit would be awesome, too (depending on which side of the law you're on, of course...). |
