Originally their race colours were white, however they soon realised that paint cost money and weighed a significant amount so their cars were made with a polished unpainted metal finish to reduce cost and weight. As it happens it also reduced drag. Afterwards when Japan were to join the racing scene they adopted the white paint scheme.
