I don´t know this game yet, but judging by the cover and the general atmosphere on these screenshots I believe it is more likely that you are playing some kind of hero like Lara Croft or Indiana Jones.

You play as Alan Quatermain. And it's nothing strange in American civil war-era revolvers (Remingtom New Army produced until 1901).
