Shotaro is a direct reference to 1988 animation film Akira. Main character Kaneda Shotaro rides a unique motorbike throughout the film. Also in Akira the villain Tetsuo Shima always want to ride Kaneda's motorbike. The film ends with Kaneda rides away on his iconic motorbike.
