Star Wars Fanatic 2007-04-09 00:04 | The sequel to the groundbreaking Grand Theft Auto seemed to have a somewhat mixed reaction - I personally rather liked it, and definitely favour it over the original. For a start, the graphics were drastically improved and, whilst still not 3d, were superiorly detailed in comparison, as well as not having such a stuttering frame rate as the original which really improved the overall gameplay. The main new feature of the game however was the inclusion of a proper gang system, where "respect" is repeatedly encouraged throughout the game. A respect meter was implemented and was an integeral part of the games structure, involving you to please the correct gangs by earning respect points. The other important addition was one that has now stuck through the present 3D incarnations - a more extravagant wanted system comprising of multiple units such as SWAT and FBI which were now dispatched in addition to the conventional police force. However, the flaw with GTA was really the setting, since it was situated in a bizarre annonymus city set into 3 main districts, and was also set "2 weeks into the future". As such, many of the cars are rather unappealing due to their futuristic qualities. Intriguingly, Rockstar also created a short promotional movie used as an extended advertisement for the game. However, the movie somewhat contradicts the game since the present day NYC setting is not present in the game, although the main protagonist of Claude Speed is present, who was the main character in both GTA 2 and 3. However, he is depicted rather different as being lively and adventurous, unlike the muted figure present in the game series. ![]() ![]() I also uploaded this movie to IMCDB: www.imcdb.org/movie.php?id=255202 -- Last edit: 2007-04-09 00:06:58 |

G-MANN 2007-08-14 15:30 | GTA2 definetely had more advanced graphics than GTA1 (and especially GTA: London) however I never liked the handling of the cars, it took too long to stop them and reverse them and go from reserve to foward motion, that kind of spoiled it for me. I first played GTA2 in 1999 at a friend's house but by the time I bought it for myself (for £2 in a second-hand game shop) at the end of 2003, I'd already completed GTA3 and GTA: Vice City so it felt pretty dated, it was more impressive when I first saw it. The later games also incorporated features that GTA2 introduced, like the advanced wanted level, so that was no longer a novelty. I still used to enjoy playing GTA1 occaisionally, even after experiencing the post-GTA3 games, but I could never really be bothered with GTA2, I've only ever played it a few times. |
badlymad 2007-08-14 21:23 | GTA2 was a fun game for its time, and fooling around with the cheat codes and the minigames made for some interesting games. I first played GTA2 after GTA1, so it definitely felt like an improvement with the gang system and health meter, among other things. Though the vehicles were not very attractive both in looks and handling, I got around that by using StyED to not just change the characteristics of the cars, but also replace them with converted GTA1 cars. By the time I got tired with the game, I had replaced practically every car with the exception of the hot dog van and the tank. |
Star Wars Fanatic 2007-08-14 22:12 | Playing GTA 2 retrospectively would certainly have hampered the experience, G-MANN. I remember loving GTA 2 in my underage excitement after playing both GTA and London to death, although GTA 3 will still be the most impacting of the series for me. |
G-MANN 2007-08-18 22:35 | Some games you still love even if they've been followed by games that are far more advanced, GTA1 was much more of a classic than GTA2, I still like GTA1 even if it has gotten a little old (in the sense you get tired of it, like you do with some films), I haven't played it in a long time (the last time I went on it was to get pictures for the site rather than to play it for fun), but I still look back at it fondly. If you think I'm just saying GTA1 is the classic because it came first, I also think GTA3 is equally a classic because it also started the tend for a new type of game, it took the themes of GTA but expanded them into a larger, 3-dimensional world. But I just don't have any feelings for GTA2 because I never got into it. I think I would still have liked GTA1 even if I'd come to it after GTA3. |
Star Wars Fanatic 2008-08-25 01:15 | Neon, can you replace the army vehicles and the Jefferson please? I got those from the PS1 version so the quality is low. |
Neon 2008-08-25 12:30 | Yes I can, but before do an image I have to find them |
Star Wars Fanatic 2008-08-25 12:44 | Are there any more missing vehicles? |
Neon 2008-08-25 14:09 | No, I don't think |
takumi 2008-12-28 11:37 | one internet site say this game its in 2013 |
Neon 2009-02-24 17:57 | All the pictures (except the 'Dementia Limousine' and 'Autobus') are of Star Wars Fanatic. |
Leoz 2010-01-25 21:03 | Isn't this game set in the past? I mean, cars from the '50s in an ultraviolent, futuristic metropolis? They'd be priceless antiques by then and they're used as gang cars? Makes no sense. ![]() |
Star Wars Fanatic 2010-01-25 22:02 | No, it's set in the future. I've never understood the location myself. |
takumi 2010-01-26 11:23 | I think like Fallout retro-futuristic |
SizSkiizd 2010-01-26 12:15 | The location is known as Nowhere City. I'm not kidding, it really is. They should make a game set in the same city and same era, only with GTA IV graphics and gameplay. |
CA_NES 2010-10-18 18:30 | That would be amazing! I really would like to modern version of the looney missions. |
Truckguy#7 2010-12-12 18:27 | You guys forgot the Tow Truck |
CA_NES 2010-12-15 11:12 | I added it, it should appear on the site shortly. |
sajmon14 2010-12-15 17:48 | and one beetle missing |
CA_NES 2010-12-15 18:01 | Which beetle? |
sajmon14 2010-12-15 18:52 | nevermind, here it's listed as Fiat 500 O.o |
kieranfilth 2011-09-26 19:01 | This game was awesome, some of the cars are awesome. |
racersg 2012-06-22 20:37 | Yes, my personal favorites are the Special Agent Car and the Truck Cabs because you can tow about 4 different trailers. ![]() |
Ritsu Tainaka 2012-08-04 04:56 | This game has many classic cars, not even modern cars... |
TA-caprice-XI 2012-08-04 05:25 | That's because, much in like the Fallout series, the developers based the cars on "50s gas guzzlers" (that's almost a direct quote). There's only a few exceptions. |
racersg 2012-08-09 03:09 | Yes. All of the cars are either priceless, or retro-fururistic. |
PikesPeak 2013-03-13 13:11 | there's 10 unused/deleted car in beta GTA 2 and it have more detailed than i thought! en.wikigta.org/wiki/Ray_Larabie_vehicles_%28GTA2%29 |
