Welp, a new NFS with a Ferrari. Pretty much a shocker, but meh, this game gonna be the racing version of CoD anyway (released less than a year from previous game and gonna suck your money).

I loved the old games but I had this attraction to creating your own custom car.
It just felt better than everybody driving the same cars but different colors....

Like the others had said, this new one feels like a Deja Vu of Hot Pursuit, tons of Super cars, but not much to do. And honestly, for customization and such, I would go with how TDU2, and some other games had, Livery editor, a selection of rims that FIT whichever car it is, no ridiculous Bling bling wheels which ruin the cars. And customizable paint with shade, texture and etc. And if someone wanted the same customization parts as from U2, then that's retarded, who would "rice" out a Ferrari, or an Aston Martin with neon lights, spinners, and ugly body kits?

BadHairDay AR (0)

2013-05-24 19:04

At least they should set it in Europe, enough America already, it got boring.
@Nismo: hey, I would rice a Ferrari! Maybe it's just me but I loved the fan made Ferraris and exotic cars that you could rice in Most Wanted (2005). I mean it's a videogame so why not customizing cars in it that you would never customize in real life? If you don't like tuning just leave the car as it is (I hope they don't force you to tune it as in Underground 2) and just enjoy beating the ugly rival ricers.
I mean no offense but I honestly don't get why people would really hate to have tuning/"ricing" features in these games, I mean it's just optional. No one forces you to put neon and bling bling rims on your Ferrari so why not have the feature anyway? It doesn't affect the gameplay at all.

Also, Need for Speed will get better when they decide to stop rushing to make a new one every year.

Man who the hell is talking about a Ferrari???
I'm talking about normal street cars like the Skyline, Evo, Corsa or Hyundai Coupe.
The most fun thing ever was tuning it because it wasn't just Driving, Driving and driving, you had the ability to change something.
Unlike the new Most Wanted. Driving and only driving, I know what you're going to say "It's a racing game that's why it's all driving"
But tuning was the best part of all Need For Speed's....

Then say so. What you've been saying made some people think that you were talking about Super cars. And how do you know what I was going to say? Did I imply that I was going to say something like that? What I really hoped for, was something a little bit like how TDU2 was, along with a few other game features mixed in. And @BadHairDay, maybe it is you, but seeing cars riced out like that just ruins the realistic factor, who in their right mind would put in that much money, for something like that, and then ruin it, that's like taking expensive furniture, and then painting it in neon colors.

BadHairDay AR (0)

2013-05-24 22:26

yeah there you are right @nismo, I got it now, thanks for explaining. Yeah it WOULD feel silly to race against riced Ferraris and Lambos if you want it to feel reallistic. I would just play it thinking it's just that the guys are nuts and maybe stole the cars and riced them because they like to rice them. (because it's the need for speed world and car enthusiasts are crazy in it). Idk if it's usually implied that the expensive cars you drive in Need for Speed are stolen or if you are actually acquiring them legally and racing them because you are rich or whatever.
But I guess they could put a feature in the options menu that lets you turn ricing on and off (for you and rivals) :P Not like they are ever gonna do that but still.

Well is that realistic seeing 24 Ferraris, Lamborghinis, Paganis, Koenigseggs on the road on the same time????
I don't think so, but seeing 24 Nissans, Hondas, Hyundais, Mitsubishis a bit tuned is pretty normal.

haha good point. Street races involving exotic expensive cars in highways DO happen in real life... I guess rarely though. And again, I think it's implied that (at least) the most expensive cars in some Need for Speeds are stolen. Especially with those ominous dirty car dealers in Most Wanted (2005) that sold Aston Martins and Lamborghinis, for example.
In any case, it's a Need for Speed, so it's not meant to be reallistic (even though they made some slightly more reallistic titles before). It's just about "what would happen if people took those expensive exotic cars and decided to race them recklessly?".

Yeah but not every race..... Like the new MW, has only Supercars which is annoying and unrealistic, I know what you mean but What I meant by realistic is handling and other stuff. I prefer driving street cars other than Supercars. Even if I had the money to buy a supercar I would still buy a normal street car and modify it a little bit because actually putting Spoilers the size of a GT1 car is ridiculous but in NFS it's actually fun to drive cars like that.

And FYI, the "Street" cars you brought up as well in previous posts: Nissan, Honda, Hyundai, Mitsubishi, Mazda, etc. Those are called "Tuners", and I'm pretty sure the newer NFS has game mechanics to single out a "Class" of cars for a race, the developers weren't that stupid enough to make the game as unfair as possible.

All the cars released so far are 2012+ in model year with never before used cars (excluding the Agera R). Hot Pursuit 2010 did something like this and it is my second favorite NFS game behind Hot Pursuit 2. Granted, It would have been 10 times better had Hot Pursuit had car customization perhaps to the extent of say MCLA, but it was fun none the less. I want a large car list much like Hot Pursuit or even Undercover of all things. And with that I agree that there should be events with everyday cars like Toyotas and Nissans because it adds a realism factor but I still am enthralled by the fact that now I can ram a Ferrari into a tree in my Lamborghini. But on a final note to Criterion, I like what you guys are doing with NFS but I can't wait for the revival of the Burnout series

I agree with you on that. I can't blame Criterion for the reason why the new Most Wanted felt bland and boring, they did a good job. But I think it's time they do what they really good at; creating a fast paced racing games with stunning damage graphics and hours of fun car-crashing gameplay (a.k.a Burnout).

And let me correct this but the Fiesta, Pantiac, BMW 1 and Mito are DLC cars and not everybody buys them so it leaves the game with about 6 or 7 street cars.

You should try counting. 16 minus 4 is not 6. Or 7, for that matter. You should also probably define "street" car too, since every car in the game except the Zonda R and M3 GTR are technically "street" cars.

Do you mean old "classic" or old "appealing to 14 year old kids who drink monster and took the first "Fast and Furious" seriously"?

The LAST thing any game needs is a bunch of yellow, hellaflush Ferraris with green tribal vinyls, ten foot spoilers, widebody kits and trunk subwoofers.

I believe I removed Ferrari in the second part of my quote. NFS was never about customization. It was about fast, awesome cars being fast and awesome. Not putting an airplane grade wing and a body kit on a Eclipse and calling it a day. And if you can customize "normal" cars (an Evo isn't really that normal), whats stopping that from spreading to the Lamborghini's and Ferrari's?

So, I was doing a little searching, and I came across an article about the release of the official cover art for Rivals.

The only real differences are the fact that they're shown as they'll look in their respective game cases (there's ones for PC, Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS4, and PS3) and that they now include the Ghost Games logo.

They still have the ESRB RP mark on them, but if anyone wants to change the cover art, the article is here: www.mytakeradio.com/ea-releases-box-art-for-need-for-speed-rivals/

Personalization sucks ass, you can only paint it and add some already created vinyls. You can do it in Forza, come on.
It's fun to make your car look like a total ricer or shit in the game, you can laugh your ass off at some settings and this is why I loved the Most Wanted and Underground series.

So we have the Lambo Veneno and the McLaren P1. Now, for the full battle of the hypercars, we only need the Porsche 918 Spyder (which will defenetly be in the game), the Pagani Zonda Revolucion and, most importantly, the Ferrari LaFerrari :D Also, I hope to see some older cars like the McMerc, the Murci and, the love of my life, the Porsche Carrera GT, along side some older Fezzas, like the Enzo :) As for now, the game is looking to be amazing! This will be my "Top Game" of 2013 for sure!

Yeah but that's why it's called a game, you wouldn't do something like this but it's good to have a function like this in the game so you can laugh your ass off at all the rices out cars crashing into lamp posts or falling off cliffs. Man Underground 2 online was the funniest game ever, you see a tuned Corsa racing a Evo and losing lol. It's what makes the game fun, a lot of functions that are either funny or look good, that's what most of us want, you have the ability to change the looks of the car if you don't like it or make it look funny, or keep it classy and stock but tune the performance. It just makes the game a lot more fun, not only online but also in single player.

sajmon14 PL (234)

2013-08-20 23:34

meh NFSII didnt had modifications and it was fun too. Well you could have two players split screen game so you didnt needed to have internet to have more fun. Well if want play with tuned cars then stick with older NFS games, back when these riced Integras were cool, now times and people changed so stop complaining :p

The Camaro doesn't look like a cheese grater designed by a blind man with a Bowie knife. Nor does it look like a Bowie knife designed by a blind man with a cheese grater. Reaction to the design of the Veneno on Jalopnik and Autoblog has been greatly negative. As for opinion, I imagine there are people who like the design of the Chevrolet Citation or Sbarro Autobau too. But I doubt anyone would call them remotely good looking.

As for your second point, the problem stems from the fact that the games aren't intended to be humorous. NFS's that include customization ALWAYS present customization as a cool and, in the case of Underground 2, necessary thing to do. If I recall correctly, in order to advance through UG2's story the player was required to hideously modify their car in order to participate in mandatory photo ops which could only be completed if the "rice" (called "cool" in game) meter was high enough. Keeping the car "classy and stock" wasn't an option. In addition, most of the people I have played with online in MW and Carbon genuinely thought their abominations of SLR McLarens looked good.

NFS and CoD are money making machines for EA. And they follow the saying "if it works, don't touch it"

For me, this is just another Most Wanted/Hot Pursuit but with Porsches and, I have to say it, nice new cars. But that's about it.

30 FPS blocked. Even in PC. No interior view. No racing wheel compatibility. This is a joke! I played every NFS from the first up to this one (I tested it a few days ago) and wow...I mean, the differences between NFS III and IV were not big, but at least 3d cockpits and night racing (among other things) were introduced. Now it feels generic as nothing else for me...

Nissan Skyline was never a normal car. It was rather the "Japanese racecar" It also appeared in an NFS before Underground as an add-on car, namely High Stakes (1999). My favorite NFS of all time.
Also, people demanding customisation after it failed in Pro Street, Undercover and satan knows where... Its totally not everything you know. What made the Underground series (Ug-carbon) awesome, was the drive. I play Need For Speed for the Drive. And honestly, seeing another city with boring asphalt outside the road, instead of various landscapes. Thats what NFS was about: Racing and seeing landscapes, with cars you would not afford in real life. And honestly, I would love to see what is the desert around Palmont City, the coastal nearby Bayview, more forests in Rockport, and some others would even go into mind: Jungle, tundra, etc...
It was the GAMEPLAY that made NFS what it was since 1994 to 2005-6. It was a joyride. And customization did not make it better, nor worse. It was a thing like jewelry: One can wear it as they want, but its not necessary, unless that one is addicted to that simple thing. Underground-Carbon was okay, and they indeed had ideas that made it fun, UG2: free roam, MW: Pursuits, Carbon: Crews and territory acquisition via racing (Autosculpt sucked, more wasting time outside a race).
If I would make an NFS game tho: I would make it to please both ends of the coin. And all without listening to such hateful words like "Please exclude supercars, I want to drive X and Y only"... Thats just annoying. No. I would make it that players can choose to play both as the import scene(Exclusives: Neon, audio, etc), the muscle scene and exotic scene-least customization(Performance, paint job, rims maybe),and please all with ease... as long as they are wise enough to embrace it. Sadly, NFS has been obsessed Online gaming lately... And it grew annoying.

BadHairDay wrote So, did this game have a quick race mode? And is the game fun anyway?

It doesn't have it. You're always in free roam mode and cannot pause the game. I found the game very stupid, with your car exploding at the minimum contact, dark graphics that made the races difficult because you just didn't know where you were going, small map, awful customistion...

But the worst part are the glitches: this game's broken.

Cars spawning 5 meters ahead of you, AI going crazy, cars going unexpectedly up in the air or through the floor, the colors changing, textures glitching, cars breaking apart for no reason or getting caught in strange places you can't get out of, physics going insane, the game crashing for no reason when you're going really fast...
