I thought this was a crap game, the graphics are substandard for it's time, the handling of the cars is absolutely horrible (remember this came out the same time as GTA3, which is miles ahead of it). It only took me two evenings to complete, I sailed through most of the missions, there were only a couple I got a bit stuck on. You got used to it once you started playing it, but overall it's definetely a below average driving game. Although the novelty value of driving through a classic film was kind of fun, it's a shame the cars handled so apallingly.

I played the PS1 version, so I can't speak for the PC version, but I don't remember it being too bad for its time. Nonetheless, it's nice to hear some opinions from users ;)

Well I think it was inferior even for it's time (don't forget this was the same year GTA3 was released), certainly in terms of gameplay and the handling of the cars, I've played older driving games that are better than this

The IMCDB page for the 1969 film The Italian Job on which this game is based:

www.imcdb.org/movie_64505-The-Italian-Job.html

All the cars are this game have same numberplates as the real ones did in the movie.

The game was dated for it's time, but I still loved it. Maybe it's cause the movie was so great Ht PS1 version had a slightly different car list

No physical damage

Actually the cars can get damaged (I think wheels come off after a certain amount of damage) and you lose the level if the car gets too banged up.

The best thing about the game is the way it is pretty faithful to the classic movie, but personally I wouldn't advise buying this, even if only it's only a few quid (unless you REALLY want to re-enact the movie). There's so many better driving games around, even from before the year this was made.

There is a damage meter, but no visible damage.

Rinspeed, do you think we should make a Visible damage category?

Rinspeed FR (1253)

the damages are for visible damages

first off the pc game is wonderful and won of the best i ever played!
second the "fiat dino mafia car" is a jenson intercepter,
i loved the game but it took me three weeks to win.
i love that the minis do not show damage,
my favorite would be mini, lamborghini, and intercepter.
this game is great and really really fun i would rate eleven out of ten!

Yes I had the game when I was 3 or 4 years (it dont works anymore) and I also crashed a lot,so the wheels came out,the windows got broken, and the car was very very dirty

first open-world game I ever played, really good fun. Spent hours just driving around.
A traffic light problem-as seen in the movie-happened yesterday near my school, the trafic lights in a certain area stopped working and it was gridlock and all the kids and teachers where late to school. My school as a small motorway running though the middle of it (the buildings are separate)and theres a subway underneath the road, there is a road crossong to get to the subway and the raffic lights did not work so it was chaos to move between the buildings.

I owned the PC one and it was, like what G-MAN said, came out at the same time as GTA3, which I never owned. But, I did own Midtown Madness when I was a Kid and, I have to say, that was MILES better.

I have a question. Do we need two Jaguars E-Type here? I thought that "green star" is reserved for vehicles that appear only in CGI cutscene and not the game itself.

Good question. In fact they used the same model in the CGI, so removed ;)

I will post a comment with at how it appears in the CGI cut scene.

If I still remember there's a secret car in Turin's Free Roam mode. Is it already posted here?

Yes, right now both the PSX and PC versions of it are listed. You get both after completing a special mission in Turin (destructor alike), which leads to pizza boy mission and it gives the prize vehicle to the mansion. What's special to the Golden Mini is that it cannot be destroyed :)

Yup, that's it!

Now I remember that I still have the PC version ;)

Great! When my site goes back online you might like some of the mods I did awhile ago, including HUD removal (as seen on the pic of the Gold Mini, it's very effective :p).

Hmm... this was found in one of the exe's:
Quote London, 1969. Charlie Croker has just finished a three year stretch, courtesy of Her Majesty's Prisons, and has an idea: to steal $4,000,000 in gold bullion, right from under the noses of the Mafia and the Turin Police..This is where you come in... as one of his drivers, you'll have to master 14 motors, including flash sports cars, 4x4s and the legendary Mini Cooper, as you screech down sewers, roar over rooftops and tear through the Alps, with the Mob and the Old Bill hot on your heels..It'll be the crime of your life!...THE ITALIAN JOB..FASTER THAN GRAN TURISMO, CRAZIER THAN CRAZY TAXI!

You might have seen this somewhere else, but the last lines you will find nowhere! Obviously because of other games being mentioned.
