Driving Emotion Type S was one of the earliest PS2 driving games. Developed by Squaresoft (the makers of Final Fantasy's only driving game), it was sadly overshadowed by Gran Turismo 3. It is also notable for being one of very few PS2 games to feature a playable cockpit view:

I think the car list is fairly run of the mill for the most part, with the usual array of Japanese cars we've seen in too many other games. It's also interesting to note that this game features the licenses of Ferrari and Porsche at a time when Gran Turismo didn't before EA bought the rights.

I have also seen some videos featuring Mitsubishi Lancer and Pajero rally cars but can't seem to find how to unlock them if they are in the final game. Can anyone confirm any details?

I had this game it had a nice selection of cars but it was let down by iffy handling the cars just seemed to steer themselves off course when taking a corner.

I had this game once as well, and indeed, the handling was awful. :/ No joke, this game probably has the worsest controls out of all the racing games I've played so far...

Apparently the Japanese version was much worse and they actually tweaked it a lot for the US and European releases.

Shame they didn't tweak it just a bit more :L

A few extra cars can be unlocked in the Autocross driving missions.

Yeah, I think I unlocked them all at the time. It was hard work!

BTW, I'm certain I remember a 1999 Evo VI WRC and Pajero WRC in one of the track preview videos.

Yes, I mentioned this in an earlier post. Couldn't find a way to unlock them, so I was hesitant to add them in case they weren't in the final game.
